By definition, motorsports indicate any sport that involves racing motor vehicles. The most common vehicles used in the sport are motorcycles and cars. However, some boat, snowmobile, truck, and even lawnmower races can technically be considered motorsports!

History

When you focus on organized events, you’ll find that the first automobile race took place in 1894 from Paris to Rouen, France. This was about a 50-mile distance but the racers only traveled around 10 mph. This image is much different from what we know about racing today!

The first organized motorcycle race also took place in France, where the sport quickly boomed across Europe and eventually the United States. Manufacturers sponsored racers in order to showcase their latest designs. So, it became a competition for not only the competitors but designers and manufacturers!
